You become what you consistently practice. So practice consistently what you want to become.

One of the most transformational things I have every done in my life, was committing to a daily practice. Yoga and meditation have always played a big part in my life but maintaining consistency in my practice was difficult. I would always find excuses and life felt too busy to fit it in.
Interestingly though, I did manage to find the time to feel anxious or nervous or allow thoughts to play over and over in my head – which we all know, is never a good use of our time.
The phrase – ‘I’ll start tomorrow’ was a regular one. Or ‘when I’m less hectic and busy then I’ll start’, or ‘when I’m on holidays, I’ll start’… the list goes on. And I know for many of you reading this, you’ve said these and so much more to yourself.
Then there are the other excuses of ‘I can’t meditate, my mind is too busy’ or ‘I’m not a spiritual person’… yep, I’ve said all those things as well.
Well, I’m here to let you know that these are all the bullsh*t stories that we tell ourselves when in fact we are actually robbing ourselves of the very thing that can shift us out of the busy mind and feeling anxious, and propel our lives into feeling calmer and more fulfilled that ever before.
And guess what… it doesn’t have to be hard or tedious or take up huge amounts of your day. In this article, I share with you some tips on how to kick start your daily practice – and you don’t even have to be a practicing yogi to do them!
How to begin
Find a nice space in your home or even your garden. If your home doesn’t feel right, then find another space somewhere else.
Cleanse your space – I like to use palo santo, sage, incense or even just diffusing some essential oils. As you use these, set your intention to cleanse and clear your space and to bring in positive energy.
Perhaps bring in your crystals, light a candle, pull a tarot/angel/oracle card, or have your journal handy for writing and calling in affirmations.

Set up rituals
Rituals are very personalised, and everyone will feel into these in different ways.
A ritual can simply be something that you commit to doing regularly that involves a series of practices together that almost feels sacred to you.
Sometimes I like to make a cacao, while burning palo santo, setting my intention before I drink the cacao and then sitting in meditation.
You choose what feels right for you.
Your practice
Start small and set aside maybe 10-15 minutes a day – it doesn’t really matter what time of the day. You may find that the more you practice, the more time you want to spend doing it.
Mornings are great because it sets you up for the day, but if you prefer the afternoon or evening then I say, go for it.
I always like to start with a breath practice – there are some available on my YouTube – which just helps to activate your life force energy.
Perhaps you’d like to create a ritual of some sort or include a self-reiki practice if you have this.
Then followed by meditation, which you can keep really simple. Here are some ideas for you:
Set a timer so that you don’t have to worry about how long you are there for, and then just allow yourself to just drop into it. Unhook from whatever is going on around you or in your life, and dedicate the time to yourself, wholey and fully.
Then take notice of how you feel at the end, perhaps even journal or make some notes to acknowledge the practice and any shifts within you.

Make your commitment
Commit to doing this practice every day. Even if you have to move the times around to suit your life each day, you commit to doing it every single day.
In the beginning, yes, you may find yourself getting distracted. You might notice yourself continually checking the time to see how long is left… this is all very normal.
Over time, this practice becomes part of your day – like eating a meal or having a shower. You will begin to notice that you can’t actually survive without it.
You might also notice that you will start to manage your emotions better, that you start to understand yourself better, and that things start to become easier in your life.
Eventually, that 10-15 minutes becomes 30 mins or an hour. Old patterns of behaviour start to fall away, and you start prioritising your time over everything else.
It really is magical. And I wish more people knew this and why I share all of it with you. It’s also the reason why I have created The Embodied Path course series which is all about embodying regular practices to support a more enriched and nourished way of being.
